This is the most common form of Beccariophoenix it is also the fastest growing of the three species, as you can see with these photos as they mature this genus (all 3 species) all look like Coconut palms "Cocos nucifera". They are very easy to grow and this species has lovely lime green leaves as a juvenile and also as a juvenile it retains an entire leaf which are split or open from the petiole not quite to the end of the leaf, to give this window affect to the entire leaf, which is how it has got it's name, normally this trait will only last until the palm is around 2 m tall but this is depending on the amount of light and conditions the palm is grown under. This species needs little attention once established and seems to be quite drought tolerant, it can be grown in the full sun or shade, once larger all of these three species as i have mentioned above will look very similar to each other (if not the same) and they do all look very similar to the coconut palms "Cocos nucifera". So if you are after that tropical look in a colder climate genus is a perfect one to use B.
madagascariensis
looks to be the most cold tolerant followed by B. alfredii then this species we have listed here!! A stunning palm for any garden likes a well-mulched garden bed and should be planted in a prominent area to appreciate the true beauty of this palm, looks fantastic around water features/falls and swimming pools. We have all 3 species available in the nursery. |
