Pelagodoxa henryana.

Pelagodoxa henryana.

This Stunning palm has large entire leaves which are dark green on the upper side of the leaf and a stunning silvery white on the under side, this species is best suited to the tropics but one of the forms seems to have a little more cold tolerance than the other two forms, the Marquesas form has a lot large seed than the other two forms (almost twice the size) and produces far less seeds one its infructescence, I have found this form to be very tropical in it’s requirements. The Fiji form is very simular to that of the form that can be found in Vanuatu but the Fiji form holds quite a few more seeds to it’s infructescence (at least 100 or more) also the mid rib and petiole can be bright yellow, where as the Vanuatu forms can be just green. With the Vanuatu forms the northern forms still seem to be a little tropical in there requirements but the ones collected from their most southern localities do seem to grow much better in the subtropics, I have also found this to be the same with Metroxylon warburgii.

We have both the Fiji and the Vanuatu forms available in limited numbers.
