Mulching


Yes we do use a pine sawdust BUT any form of mulch will do. We have also introduced hay bales of mulch to the harder to access areas. This type of mulch must be re mulched each year as it breaks down quickly.

It does draw a little from the soil on the break down but we compensate with a little extra fertilizer.

We mulch 12 inches thick which allows us to leave that area for up to 4 year before remulching.We also put all the leaves that fall to the ground straight back onto the garden. But we do not go to the trouble to break it up - just back on whole. In old sections of the garden these break down with in a few months, surprisingly. It does not matter what type of mulch you use.

The more the merrier
